Abstract

The study aimed to investigate the antecedents of successful implementation of 5G technology projects in Kenya. The study was guided by the following specific objectives; to establish the effect of top management support on successful implementation of 5G technology projects in Kenya; and to assess the effect of procurement planning on successful implementation of 5G technology projects in Kenya. This study was supported by resource-based view theory, and transaction cost economics theory. The study adopted a adopt a cross-sectional survey research design. The population consisted of 249 ICT experts, senior and middle managers from three main telecommunications companies in Kenya - Telkom, Safaricom, and Airtel. These companies were selected because they are extensively involved in the adoption of technological innovations within their organizations and possess the necessary experience and capacity to align these innovations with the overall strategic direction of the companies. The study’s sample size was reached at using Krejcie and Morgan sample size determination formula. Therefore, the sample size for the study was 151 respondents. The 151 respondents were chosen with the help of stratified random sampling technique. The study then used simple random sampling to select respondents from each group. The study used self-administered questionnaires composed of both close-ended questionnaires. Population of the pilot was 15 individuals which represented 10% of the total population size which was pre tested to all the respondents in all cadre sample population. The pilot group was selected randomly from the target population but was excluded from the final study. Quantitative data was coded and entered into statistical packages for social scientists (SPSS version 26) which was analyzed using descriptive statistics such as means, standard deviations, frequencies and percentages. The Pearson product-moment correlation coefficient was used to measure the strength of a linear association between two variables. Multiple regression models were used to establish antecedents of successful implementation of 5G technology projects in Kenya. The findings were presented in tables and figures. The study found that top management support has a significant positive relationship with successful implementation of 5G technology projects in Kenya. Also, procurement planning had a significant positive relationship with successful implementation of 5G technology projects in Kenya. Organizations therefore need to ensure that they allocate sufficient resources, engage relevant stakeholders, and adopt best practices in project management to achieve successful implementation
