Abstract

This study sought to establish the influence of project scope management on successful implementation of projects in non-governmental organization in Nairobi City County. Specifically, the study sought to establish the influence of scope planning on successful implementation of projects in non-governmental organization in Nairobi City County, and to assess the effect of scope definition on successful implementation of projects in non-governmental organization in Nairobi City County. The study was guided by the contingency theory, and the theory of constraints (TOC). This study used a descriptive research design. The study targeted all the 201 NGO's operating within Nairobi County. The study used 100 NGOs project managers which represented 50% of the population as the sample size. Primary data was used collected using questionnaire. The pretesting sample was made of 10 respondents, representing 10% of the sample size. Inferential and descriptive statistics were employed for analysis of quantitative data with the assistance of Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS version 25). Descriptive statistics such as frequency distribution, mean (measure of dispersion), standard deviation, and percentages were used. Inferential data analysis was conducted by use of pearson correlation coefficient, and multiple regression analysis. The study concludes that scope planning has a positive and significant effect on successful implementation of projects in non-governmental organization in Nairobi City County. In addition, the study concludes that scope definition has a positive and significant effect on successful implementation of projects in non-governmental organization in Nairobi City County. Based on the findings, this study recommends that the management of NGOs in Nairobi County should continue ensuring effective scope planning in projects being implemented to enhance their performance. In addition, the management of NGOs in Nairobi County should formulate and implement effective work breakdown structure and stakeholders Identification to facilitate project implementation.
