Abstract

The general objective of the study is to determine the effect of project monitoring practices on performance of Public Private Partnership Transport and Infrastructure Projects in Kenya. More specifically, the study sought to establish the effect of monitoring team training practice, and monitoring data management practice on performance of Public Private Partnership Transport and Infrastructure Projects in Kenya. The study adopted descriptive survey design targeting 27 Public Private Partnership Transport and Infrastructure Projects in Kenya as the unit of analysis. The unit of observation include a monitoring and evaluation manager and finance manager each drawn from the aid projects adding to 54 respondents and census was used. Primary data was gathered with aid of the questionnaire which had undergone pilot testing. The information from field was analyzed through means and standard deviations and regression analysis and presented through tables and figures. The study established that monitoring team training practice had the greatest contribution towards performance of Public Private Partnership Transport and Infrastructure Projects in Kenya (β=0.602), followed by monitoring data management practice (β=0.429). The study concludes that project monitoring practices has significant effect on performance of Public Private Partnership infrastructural projects. The study recommends that project managers working with Public Private Partnership Transport and Infrastructure Projects in Kenya should refine and review the monitoring goals and targets to ensure clarity.  The human resource managers working with Public Private Partnership Transport and Infrastructure Projects in Kenya should refine the training content of the monitoring team.  The project managers working with Public Private Partnership Transport and Infrastructure Projects in Kenya need to improve on data management systems and infrastructures and adopt latest technologies that can allow storage and back up of huge amount of project monitoring information.  The project managers working with Public Private Partnership Transport and Infrastructure Projects in Kenya should implement the baseline and variance analysis reports.
