Abstract

The main purpose of this study was to examine the influence of project management practices and successful implementation of One Stop Border Post Projects in Kenya. The specific objectives was to establish the influence of stakeholder management on implementation of One Stop Border Post Projects in Kenya; and to determine the influence of Project Cost Management on implementation of One Stop Border Post Projects in Kenya. In line with these objectives, research questions were developed and a cross-sectional research design as well as positivism research philosophy was adopted. The target population was 270 members of the project teams from the 7 one stop border posts in Kenya as at 20th February 2023, each project team comprising of three client’s representatives, three key project team leaders, three government representatives and the project manager. These are the key personnel with technical mandate in One Stop Border Post Projects implementation. Simple random sampling method was used to select a representative sample of 127 members of the project teams. The unit of analysis was the 7 One Stop Border Post Projects in Kenya as at 20th February 2023, since these are the entities that the study focused on and targeted to mention something about at the end of the process. The unit of observation was the project teams from the 7 One Stop Border Post Projects in Kenya, while the project team members were the respondents since they play major roles affecting the efficiency and implementation of One Stop Border Post Projects in Kenya. The outcome of the study was specifically tailored to suit the Kenyan one stop border posts objectives and strategy. Both quantitative and qualitative data collection methods and analysis targeting a total of 127 respondents was used. The study established that stakeholder Management positively and significantly influence successful implementation of One Stop Border Post Projects in Kenya; Project Cost Management positively and significantly influence successful implementation of One Stop Border Post Projects in Kenya. The study therefore recommends organizations to conduct project planning before starting any project. It is important to conduct feasibility studies to identify any challenges that might be encountered and have proper risk allocation. In order to plan effectively, managers should understand what is required and individuals responsible for performance of certain tasks, ways of performing them and scheduling of events.
